Hex Hall

Hex Hall Last year everyone raved about Rachel Hawkin's Hex Hall. I didn't ignore it exactly, I was just feeling a bit done with the whole witches, vampires, fairies thing. When I saw that the second book was out I decided it was time to read it. I had done a nice long jag without reading any fantasy-ish stuff and figured it was a good time. It was.

I'll let you in on a little secret. Sometimes instead of taking a shower I'll have a bath just so that I can read. I only wash my hair a couple of times a week (my hair is happy about this) and since I don't need to wash my hair it's just as easy to take a bath as it is to shower. Sure, it takes a tad longer than a shower but I get to get clean and sneak in a few chapters of a book. It's win/win and one of the benefits of working from home as far as I'm concerned. I read most of Hex Hall in the bathtub and I was only almost late for a conference call once.

After reading Hex Hall I understand what everyone loved about it. It's fun and takes just enough of a twist on things to keep me interested. I'm glad I read it now and not last year when I was feeling burnt out on the genre. Though the roommate's name being Jenna made me keep thinking of Firemom and that made me giggle. Somehow I don't see that Jenna being so into hot pink, though I'm sure she'd take the lovely green dress on Hex Hall's cover.
