Oh those pesky reading goals

I should probably wait until the end of the month to talk about reading goals but meh, I'm in the mood now. Who knows what I'll be in the mood for a week from now. I love making reading goals, however I am not so good at keeping them. I'm aware of this. Yet at the beginning of the year I set myself some rather ambitious reading goals. They were designed to keep things fun (because if it's not fun I know I won't do it) while still pushing myself a bit. I need a good push now and then.

It started off pretty well actually, but then February happened. I don't know what was up with February but it was a messed up month. I didn't have time for anything and when I wasn't doing work I was sleeping. (Sleep is good. I like sleep.) I had a cranky wrist and well, February just sucked.

There are my reading goals:

1. Read 150 books.

2. Read 50 of my own books. Re-reads don't count.

3. Read at least 2 each red, orange, yellow, green, blue, and purple books.

4. Read at least 2 chunksters, which I’m counting as 650+ pages.

5. Read at least 3 of the WWI and WWII books I have on my own shelves.

6. I want to hunt down and read at least one Encyclopedia Brown book.

7. I want to read at least five graphic novels.

8. Read more e-books – I read 4 in January. (Yep, it's vague. Oops.)

9. Read A Tale of Two Cities.

Nothing scary. Just really lots of reading. Let's look at how I'm doing.

1. Read 150 books - to date I've read 21. If I split this reading evenly between the months I should be around 37 by the end of March. Yeah, that's not happening.

2. Read 50 of my own books and rereads don't count. I've read 10 but 5 were rereads so that's a grand total of 5. I'm 10% of the way through. That's not bad. Not great but not bad. I generally have one of my own books on the go at all times.

3. Read at least 2 each red, orange, yellow, green, blue, and purple books. I've read a red book and a green book. I'm reading a yellow book right now and I have a blue book in the queue. Not bad.

4. Read at least 2 chunksters, which I’m counting as 650+ pages. I've read one. Half done!

5. Read at least 3 of the WWI and WWII books I have on my own shelves. Nope. Haven't so much as started one, though I have plenty to choose from. (I easily have four or five times that amount on my shelves.)

6. I want to hunt down and read at least one Encyclopedia Brown book. I still haven't added one to my library list. Making a note in my head to do that.

7. I want to read at least five graphic novels. I haven't read any yet but I have some checked out from the library.

8. Read more e-books – I've read a few. It was a very vague goal wasn't it? Maybe I should aim for 12. That's one per month.

9. Read A Tale of Two Cities. I'm thinking this will be an April thing...or maybe April-May.

Looking at this, it's really not that bad. It's all doable. The two hardest are the first two in the list. The ones that are just about numbers. I just have to keep on keeping on. Or perhaps I'm just feeling optimistic because I've finished four books in the past week.

How are you doing with your 2010 reading goals?
