Friday Confessions: I Spend New Year's Eve In My Pajamas

FireworksIt's the last day of the year. All over people are getting dressed up, going to parties or hanging out with friends, drinking special cocktails. Confession: I hate going out on New Year's Eve. I feel like the way that I bring in the new year sets the tone for the year ahead. I like my New Year's Eve to be quiet and peaceful. I like ringing the in new year wearing my jammies. I like my jammies. I like being home. I'm happy at home.

When I was a teen I spent a lot of New Year's Eves at my best friend's house with her family and neighbours. We'd watch tv. Play cards. Eat Chinese Food. It was a good way to spend the night.

When I was single I spend many a New Year's Eve at home. I'd buy a delightfully trashy romance novel, fill the tub full of bubbles and plop myself in there until with a bottle of sparkling wine until wine ran out, I finished the book or I got too wrinkly. Whichever came first. (There was much adding of hot water to the tub.) I have to say, it was a darned good way to spend an evening.

2010 was a rough year for me. I really should have know when I started it off with my head in the toilet. No, I wasn't drinking. At 11:30pm the swine flu hit me. I was down for the next four days and I missed the first full work week of 2010. Go me! Not an auspicious start to the new year.

This year the fake husband and I will spend tonight on the couch in jammies. We'll eat appetizers. Maybe we'll watch a movie. I'll drink cider. We may or may not be still awake when the ball drops.

I'm mostly just hoping to have a better start to 2011 than I did 2010.

How are you planning to spend New Year's Eve? Do you have any NYE traditions?
