Forever Princess

I finished the final book in Meg Cabot's Princess Diaries series, Forever Princess, Friday night and I'm feeling a bit sad about it. *sniff*

I've read the series from sometime near the beginning, there might have been two or three books out when I started. There were times when I wanted to just give up on it. There were times when I wanted to shake Mia so hard her teeth rattled. Mostly I wanted Mia to smarten up, grow up and stop being a spaz.

Well, she's still a bit of a spaz but now she knows when she's being a spaz. She's making decisions. She's facing consequences of those decisions, such as the fact that she made the country that she's supposed to rule a government similar to England's (which her family is obviously not so thrilled about). She's grown up. Well, as much as one can grow up in high school. I'm sure that she has many things to learn in college.

It was the right ending for the series. It really, really was.

But...I'm sad. Because finally here is the Mia I've been waiting to see for years and now it's all done. I mean, where is the fairness in that?

(And since when did Lana become likable? I feel almost bad admitting that I like Lana...)

Yes, Cabot has said she might come back in later years to revisit Mia but well, that'll be different. (Plus I really don't think it's going to happen. She's just too busy cranking out all those other series she has in the works and dreaming up new ones.)

Good-bye Princess Mia. *sniffle*
