Socks are finished!

I finished my first pair of socks on Saturday while watching the first half of season 1 of Rome (we did the entire season in 2 days...). Pictures to come when I find the camera batteries.

I was talking to my mother about knitting during one of our recent phone conversations. My mom tried to teach me to knit a couple of times when I was a kid but it just never worked for me for some reason. Then one fall, after returning to a fairly normal work schedule following a few months of overtime, I decided to teach myself to knit. I was bored and only got two tv channels (couldn't afford cable). So thanks to the internet and Knitting for Dummies I taught myself how to knit. And then I didn't really do much with it because I'm a chicken shit when it comes to trying hard actual patterns (scarves are easy, you just knit a really long rectangle).

So socks were a big deal for me. And my mother was very impressed that I was knitting socks.

Me: I'm working on the second sock
Mom: Wait. You can turn a heel?
Me: I messed it it up and had to rip it back a few times but eventually I did it! I felt like a freaking genius!
Mom: I can't turn a heel and I've been knitting since you've been born.
Me: Yes but I have the internet to help me.
Mom: You can turn a heel. That pisses me off!

She said it with love. I promise. That being said, it amuses me to no end that my mother swore. About knitting socks! Ha!
