Mansfield Park

I know, I know. I've been on a Austen kick lately. I'm not sure why. (I actually recently bought several Austen movies and just watched the 1995 version of Persuasion. It's really very good!) But I have this as well as several other Austen's on my A-Z list so expect more Austen to come.

I remember I had started Mansfield Park once before. I was on the train travelling from Montreal to Moncton. Perhaps not the best choice as I had just finished exams and was tired. So I gave up on it and went to the sky car to watch whatever movies they were showing at the time. I just never got around to reading it over my break.

I did watch the movie (although it's not true to the book) so the whole time I knew what was going to happen. It just seemed that in this book, more than the others, it took a lot longer to get there.

I liked Fanny and I didn't like Fanny. Fanny was just too damned nice. It annoyed me. I didn't care for Edmund very much, for a supposedly smart man he was pretty darned stupid about many things. Actually I don't know that I really liked any of the characters in this one although I did enjoy disliking Mrs. Norris (and now that I think of you think that Filch's cat in Harry Potter is based on her? The characteristics suit...).

I don't think this will be on any of my favourites lists. But who knows, maybe it will grow on me. Emma did.
