2007 in review

It's that time of year again. In 2007 my reading dipped down. In 2006 I read over 140 books. This year it was 85. Definitely not a bad count by any means but in 2008 I'd like to get it back up around 100. (Hee, I accidentally typed in 1000!) Of those 85 about 1/3 were YA. I do love me some YA and I read a lot of excellent YA this year which is pretty evident in my best of list. It was really a fantastic year for me and YA.

So here are my favourite reads of the year. They link to my posts about them, either here or at BlogHer.

Sassymonkey's favourite reads of 2007:
Crazy Aunt Purl's Drunk, Divorced and Covered in Cat Hair by blogger Laurie Perry
Eat, Pray, Love by Elizabeth Gilbert
An Abundance of Katherines and Looking for Alaska by John Green
Evolution, Me and Other Freaks of Nature by Robin Brande
Long May She Reign by Ellen Emmerson White (I can't tell how happy even the existence of this book made me)
A Mango-Shaped Space by Wendy Mass
The Boy in the Striped Pajamas by John Boyne (this one just snuck in under the wire)
Poison Study and Magic Study by Maria Snyder

I don't have one run away favourite from the year and it was really hard to choose even these as "bests". I hate bests. And favourites.

So next year my reading goals are:

  • finish the A-Z challenge

  • finish my 2006 summer reading challenge (I know! Shocking!)

  • read more books from my shelves

  • buy less books (again, shocking!)

  • join the library

  • focus my reading a bit more...I tend to kind of stray away from books that are half read for no good reason except that I get distracted (oh look, a shiny!!!)

  • I'd also like to sign up for, and actually FINISH (on time!) a reading challenge

Speaking of reading challenges...next Saturday I'll be posting a big ole list of reading challenges over at BlogHer. I think there are over 20 full year challenges on my list.
