The Luxe

Awhile ago I posted that I had a case of the "I wanty's". I've lucked out on the list because Cat bought Wicked Lovely (which um I just realized I haven't read yet...). And then the lovely people at Harper Collins Canada sent a copy of The Luxe by Anna Godbersen my way. (Psst...if you head on over there you can read a chapter excerpt.)

It's a fantastic cover isn't it?

The Luxe is one of those books that starts with a scene near the end of the book and then takes you alllll the way back to the beginning so you have work to it.  Twilight did the same thing only, you know, with vampires. With The Luxe you start at Elizabeth's funeral and then have to work back to how you got there...and there's a touch of mystery. You get introduced to the key characters and assuming you pay attention you get some hints on what happens.

I'm going to say something I don't say often - I think The Luxe would make a good movie. It's a fun book but I think it might even maybe be better as a movie. I know, I can't believe I just said that either. But if it was a movie? I'd totally see it. Except one itty thing. There's a character named Isaac Phillips Buck (Buckie) and I kept picturing him as Philip Seymour Hoffman but there's no way they'd get him to play Buckie therefore the casting would be wrong and it would drive me nuts. But other than that, I think it would make a fantastic movie. ;)

But there's love, intrique, sneakiness (oh so much sneakiness), passion, revenge...yep it has it all. The only thing that disappointed me is that I didn't get MORE - especially of the supporting cast. I'm sure Penelope can find more to get herself into. As can Lina. And Buckie? That guy's got the goods on everyone. And what is going to happen to the Holland family?

Me thinks there's another book there...
