Millicent Min Girl Genius

millicent min girl geniusAfter a few days of lots of energy I'm once again finding myself braindead. And not wanting to read. After giving up on Beautiful Lies I needed an nice easy intro back into reading again. So I grabbed the thinnest most colourful book on the shelf - Lisa Yee's Millicent Min: Girl Genius.

Millicent is a pretty typical 11 year old genius. It's the summer before her senior year of high school and she's taking a summer course at the local college. And no, that's not a typo. She's actually 11.

Millicent is typical in a lot of ways of the stereotypical kid nerd. She doesn't have social skills. She doesn't have friends. She doesn't do sports. But slowly through the book she develops all three.

Confession: when I was a kid I want to be a girl genius. Of course now I'm more aware of the issues that child geniuses face but hey, when I was a kid Doogie Howser was famous for like a nanosecond. Being that smart seemed really cool.

In any case, it was a decent way to get started reading today. It was light, it was quick, and it was slightly amusing. Definitely for the much younger crowd though.
