A month of veggies

It's been a month since I started my veggie delivery experiment. The verdict - I love it! Between getting these delivered to me by Green Earth Organics and only buying meat at my butchers I hardly ever have to go to my local grocery store. I really like that because I rather hate my local grocery store. I only go for things like bottled salsa, paper towels, etc.

The biggest adjustment is getting used to having fresh fruit around. I'm really not used to have so much fresh fruit in the house. Most of the time when I do have fruit it's frozen berries (which I love). As well, I'm not used to having lettuce and spinach in the house on a regular basis either.

I thought I'd give you an example of what I have. Today I got the following (I get the family box):

  • Ontario Mint

  • .25 Lb. Ontario Spinach

  • 2 Lemons

  • 4 Red Delicious apples

  • 5 Valencia Oranges

  • Green Onion

  • .5 Lb. Ontario Mushrooms*

  • 1 Lb. Quebec Potato

  • .5 Lb. Ontario Baby Bok Choy

  • 4 Red Pears

  • 1 Lb. Ontario Beets

  • Ontario Asparagus*

  • Green Leaf Lettuce

  • Bunch Carrots

  • Mango

  • Zucchini

  • I'll flesh this out with a minimum amount of grocery shopping. Looking at this I know I'm going to pick up some fresh ginger and make some Tasty, Tasty Greens (only less green as I'm going to sub the broccoli for some cauliflower this time). And I'm going buy some sour cream and use it with the use the mushrooms, green onions and lemon for a mushroom sauce that the redhead made and serve it with chicken (which I have in the freezer). The delivery came with a recipe for linguine with zucchini and mint. I'll only have to buy the linguine and I'll get two meals out of this. The beets - I might pickle them and eat them right away since I think that's the way I like them best. So that leaves the fruit (the apples look AMAZING and I can't wait to eat one), poatoes, carrots and asparagus. It will all get eaten somehow. I'll probably roast the asparagus in the oven because that's what I usually do with it.  Oh and the lettuce. I'll uh do...something with it.
