Masque of the Black Tulip

masqueblacktulipI picked up Masque of the Black Tulip the other day. I have other books that should have come first but I don't care. lol I wanted to read something that I knew would be fun.

Before I started I was worried that it wouldn't be nearly as good at the first one. I found that it started off a bit slow but happily it picked up speed. In comparison to The Secret History of the Pink Carnation there was something lacking...I can't quite put my finger on what though.

As the first book focused on Richard and Amy, this book focuses on Hen and Miles. I liked the appearances of Hen in the first book so I found it enjoyable.

I think my only complaint about this book, and the first one too I suppose, is that the majority of the women come off as being just plain silly. Even Hen and Amy, who at first appear to be stong female characters, end up coming of as rather silly, particular after men come into the picture. .

This definitely left an opening for a third book (which I think will end up having something to do with Ireland). I have a sneaky suspicion that the third book will feature Jane. I don't think we've seen enough of Jane. Now Jane seems like a very serious and capable woman. If Lauren Willig makes her silly I'll be very disappointed.
