Meme-ish

I'm feeling meme-ish. I'm not going to do the 5 things you don't know about me meme because some of you have known me far longer than others and I can't think of anything that some of you don't know. So I'm stealing this meme from SciFiChick.

Total Number of Books Owned
Probably only a couple of hundred? I've cut down the number very signficantly over the last couple of years. That's what happens when you move to another city and have to pay by weight. And then move into a teeny tiny apartment. I don't have a lot of book storage space...but in exchange I don't have roommates. And after the Roommates from Hell that is a very good thing. Piper and I are both like it much better this way.

Last Book I Bought
Canada: A Portrait in Letters by Charlotte Grey
One thing I have not yet gotten to about the IFOA is that there are books for sale *everywhere* and it wears down an a person's willpower...

Last Book Read
Dear Stranger, Dearest Friend by Laney Katz Becker. This will be the last book on breast cancer that I read for BlogHer cause it's the end of the month and time to move on. I miss the variety of talking about different subject matters. Thanks to Les for recommending it.

Five books that mean a lot to you:
Errmmm this is hard...
1. Pride and Prejudice - Jane Austen. I read it for the first time when I was 10 or 11 and have read it once every year since.

2. Rilla of Ingleside - L.M. Montgomery. I think this was the book that sparked my interest in the experiences of women during WWI and WWII as well as just generally the experiences of those on the "home front". This interest led to my history degree with a specialization in War & Society.

3. The Origin of Species - Charles Darwin. I will freely admit that I have not read this book cover to cover. It's rather umm....dry. But the ideas in it also lead to a large part of what I studied during my archaeology degree (I had a double major, I didn't do two separate degrees).

4. The Grace Harlowe College Series - Jessie Graham Flower. After my grandfather died and my grandmother decided to move out of the house and give it to my brother I got the first four books in this series. I got some other girl's series books as well.

5. The Bantam Crossword Dictionary - Walter D. Glanze (ed). I have a very tattered 1979 paperback edition of this book. It's falling apart and if I were to drop it I'd have to pick up at least 50 pages and and put them back in order. It was my grandfathers and one of the very few things of his that I have.
