Banned Books Week!

This week is Banned Books Week!!! According to the ALA banned books week is a celebtraion of the freedom to read. It is observed during the last week of September each year. Observed since 1982, the annual event reminds Americans not to take this precious democratic freedom for granted.

Ok, I'm not American. But I will still celebrate this because I think it's awesome. So pick a book and start reading.

Coincidentally I just bought Atwood's "A Handmaid's Tale" so I guess I'll just have to bump that to the top of the list.

Psst- Any Canadians out there - we have a similar week in Canada. It's called Freedom To Read and it's in February. If you go to their site they have a list of more than 100 books that are often banned or challenged in Canada...I'm seriously considering printing it out and trying to read all of them. It's a really great list and gives information on why the book is challenged. Oddly enough - many of them were part of my school curriculum....

Now - should I go glower at Denise? She's supposed to tell me about these things and not leave me to find out about them on my own... ;-)
