Poet Laureate

Awhile I was having a discussion with someone...I believe it was Mikey. We were discussing whether or not we had a poet laureate. We kinda assumed that there was one but didn't know who it was.

I'm bored, I have time on my hands, so I went exploring.

The post of poet laureate was only created in 2001 by Senator Jerry Grafstein. So Mikey and I may be excused for our ignorance. The current Parliamentary Poet Laureate of Canada is Pauline Michel. The post alternates between English and French-language poets and they don't have any official obligations but duties may include writing poetry for official ceremonies, hosting or sponsoring poetry readings and advising the parliamentary librarian, whose department oversees the poet laureate post (speaking of which - how cool would it be to be the parliamentary librarian???).
