24 Days of Christmas: Day 1
Excuse me while I indulge myself at little. I’m a lazy, lazy blogger these days (or you know, always) and I’m going to try to post one post for the next 24 days. Yes, 24 days of Christmas. Long gone are the days of faking the joy. (Though I’m still tempted to use that tag and I think I shall because it amuses me.) If you want to play along let me know so I can go read your posts. Let’s get started.
On the first day of Christmas I gave to Lee – one green sock. (And no, I will not count up to 24 items.)

Last December I got the brilliant idea of knitting Lee a pair of socks for Christmas. Actually, not just knitting them but secretly knitting them. I had made a couple of pairs already and knew I could do it. The problem was I didn’t have that idea until about the first week of December. I’m not a very fast knitter. And did I mention the secret part?
I was doing some video moderation at work so I brought my knitting to work with me. (Trust me, when you are watching/listening to the same music video over and over for hours at a time you need to occupy you hands so that you don’t shove forks in your eyes.) So I knit and knit and knit. It quickly became rather apparent that there was no way I was going to get a pair of socks finished, but if I tried really, really hard I might get one sock finished.
I did. Barely. I finished the toe, frantically looking up the Kitchener Stitch online (because I can never remember it), on Christmas Eve. Lee was home but was occupied in the other rooms cleaning. I was huddled on the couch going trying to send him telepathic messages (don’t come in the living room, don’t come in the living room, don’t come in the living room). I finished it, bound it off, rolled it up and shoved it in his almost overflowing stocking.
On Christmas morning, we rolled out of bed and the very first thing you do is stockings. There was his green sock right on top. He put it on, I gave a bit internal thanks to the knitting powers that be because it fit, and he posed the photo above. He then continued to wear his one sock for the next hour.
And yes, I did eventually finish the second one. He got it for Easter.
