  • Saying Good-bye to the 101 things

    Date: 2009.01.02 | Category: 101 things | Response: 1

As a way of cleaning the slate and starting the New Year off on good ground, I’m saying goodbye to my 101 Thing in 1001 Days list.

To say that I’m not in the same place as I was when I wrote it is an understatement. Since starting the list, which is supposed to end in Sept 2009, I’ve lived in three cities. None of that was planned. I don’t have the same job (not planned at that time). My life is very, very different than it was. Many of the items on the list just don’t work with this life that I now live.

I thought that when I started the list that I would find it motivating. It was, and it wasn’t. I really didn’t make a big effort to do anything on the list, it was more that when things happened that were on the list I’d think, “Hey! That was on the list! Score!”

I did cross off things on the list that I never though I would. I put “Go to Paris” on it for a lark, never dreaming that I’d actually do it. I had very vague plans of spending my 30th birthday in Paris – a dream really. Well, I made it there at 28 and I’m not complaining. Too bad I hadn’t also put “Go to Italy” on the list because I did that too.

There are things on the list that I’d still like to do. Maybe I’ll start another list someday but for now I’m putting it to rest.

    Bye-bye 101 things.

  • 101 things update

    Date: 2008.10.02 | Category: 101 things | Response: 1

Still slowly picking away at my 101 things. In September I did the following:

    1. Read another  “missed” classic – only 7 more to go!

    40. Organize my email x3 1 – I’m working on a way to response to items faster. I’m a bad, bad emailer these days.

    91. Learn how to sew – I haven’t learned how to sew but I have found someone who can teach me how to sew. Wave hello to Halyma whom I met an an Ottawa Social Media Breakfast. (Uh, yeah, she’s one of the many people I keep meaning to email…)

    97. Go back through old blog entries and fix the formatting x4 2 – this is a work in progress and I think 2 or 3 more sessions should have it done. I hope.

What am I working on this month?

    1. Read a “missed” classic. x10 7 (Jane Eyre, Mansfield Park, The Woman in White) -  hope to get two more done this month (that tie into both the RIP III Challenge and the A-Z challenge)

    2. Complete the a-z reading challenge – 26 books (update June 3/07 – 10 of 26 read, update Jan 1/08 – 11 reads) – I hope to get two or three more of these knocked off

    16. Go to BlogHer – slightly cheating on this one but I am attending BlogHer Boston on October 11. I’m counting it.

    33. Purge old magazines x2 (1) – I have to get rid of some. They are cluttering the place up.

    41. Backup my laptop once per month x6 – I really need to do a backup

    42. Purge and shred old files x3 1 – See above re clutter

    43. Update my portfolio – I need to pick out some blog posts to add to my writing portfolio – any from here or BlogHer that you particularly liked?

    81. Take a candelit bubble bath x10 8 – because it’s cold here and baths are warm

    84. Go to a trivia night at a pub – I’m on the prowl, anyone know a good one in Ottawa?

    85. Knit myself something – I’m almost finished a pair of socks. They don’t fit but that’s beside the point.

    86. Send someone a homemade gift – anyone have size 6 feet? I can send you a nice pair of orange handknit socks. I’m a size 6.5 and they are a wee bit too small for me.

    95. Create a blog book – I’d like to start one at least. Similar to my porfolio but of posts that I like, not just ones I’ve written.

    96. Update the blogroll on my book blog x3 (1) – Since I moved my book blog Cat is the only one on the blogroll. Ha!

    98. Fix the labels on this blog – easiest to do when fixing formatting

    99. Try a new recipe and blog about it x10 (9) – I’ve got a backlog of these to blog about

    100. Post on my food blog on this blog about foodie stuff once a week for a month x6 – I have lots to say about food that I never say

    101. Blog every day (on a single blog) for a month x3 – I thought I was going to do this last month. Got to the end of Sept and missed a day. DOH!

    Date: 2008.09.01 | Category: 101 things | Response: 2

Not much to check off my 101 things update. Zandria is doing much better at hers than I am. I think part of my problem is that I don’t really like my list anymore but I’m going to try to keep plugging away at it. I’ve definitely done some things on it that I never thought I would (like go to Paris).

    • Try a new recipe and blog about it x10 (9)

I blogged about the Salsa Verde recipe I tried (and loved). This one item could have been crossed off months ago. I try a lot of new recipes, most often from blogs. If I can’t figure out what I want to eat I usually stick an ingredient into Food Blog Search and see what comes up. The only reason that this item isn’t completely finished is because I’m lazy. I hate it when that’s the reason I don’t do things. Sigh.

Speaking of which…I said I was going to make cookies today so maybe I should go do that…

  • 101 Things Update

    Date: 2008.07.05 | Category: 101 things | Response: 2

I’m home from vacation and bloody tired. But it’s time for another 101 things update.

    Completed items:

    18. Go to PEI to visit my family

    19. Visit Calleen (When I started this she was not living in PEI but now she is which made it way easier…even if she hadn’t been we would have stopped to visit her anyway).

    25. Take things to Goodwill x6 (Note: or other similar donation place) – I had two remaining on this one and we made at least 2 trips in June…if not more.

    30. Plant a garden (seriously) x1 (Note – slight change on this since I can’t do a garden – get a plant and keep it alive for at least a month) – Planted tomatoes and a jalapeno pepper plant. My “patio tomatoes” – yeah, I think the wrong label was put into those as they have grown to be HUGE plants. Two of the plants had to be moved outside due to an extreme aphid invasion. The remaining tomato plant has lots of buds on it so I’m hopeful. Ditto the pepper plant. They have been kept alive for a month. Woohoo! Had to move the herbs outside too though due to the aphids…I think we might be able to salvage the rosemary though. And will restart some basil and cilantro soon.

I was going to try not to buy any books in July (#4 on my list – don’t buy any books for a month x4) but I sank that one on the very first day of the month. It’s only kinda my fault. You see, my hometown has a museum and it turns 50 this year. So it put out a book with lots of pictures and stories about the local community. One of my relative’s picture is in it. And well, it’s just darned interesting. So I bought it. And I bought another book about the area that was written by one of my high school English teachers back in the ’80s. Totally justifiable but oh well, there’s always August (although that means I couldn’t buy Meyer’s new book until September…unless I preorder…).

  • 101 Things Update

    Date: 2008.06.02 | Category: 101 things | Response: 5

It’s been awhile since I’ve done a 101 things update. Nothing very exciting this time, ie no Paris trips or anything. ;-) (But I’m reading two or three bloggers who are currrently on vacation in or going to Paris and the newspaper had a thing about Paris yesterday and I WANT TO GO BACK. sigh.)

    5. Read all the books I have checked out of the library x4 2 – I took a bunch of books out of the Montreal library in April and I read them all. I did not fair so well in May. Will be hitting up the Ottawa library soon. :)

    25. Take things to Goodwill x6 2 (Note: or other similar donation place) – Dropped a bunch of stuff off at the Sally Ann in May and will likely be doing another trip this month. Moving has a way of doing that…

    29. Organize the kitchen cupboards x3 1 – moving does cause one to do that and I’ve moved twice now (note that moving was not on the original 101 things list…sigh). And the kitchen cupboards will likely be reorganized within another week when we pick up our new dining room set, including a hutch!

    32. Clean out the bathroom cabinet x4 1 – Again moving does tend to make one do that.

    46. Clean my desk x6 1 – again with the moving

    55. Buy renter’s insurance – done!

    63. Eat breakfast every day for a week x5 - I’ve probably had this one complete for a few months now. I now eat breakfast everyday…except maybe on moving days.

I really need to start focusing on getting some of this stuff done. I really thought that I’d be done with at least one of the reading challenges by now…

    Far less exciting -

    28. Put laundry away the same day that I do it x4 1

    77. Get up when my alarm goes off every day for a week x10 7

    80. Geek out for a day and watch all of the LOTR movies in one day – Completed Jan 2008

    92. Go to a museum x3 (Montreal Museum of Fine Arts for Emily Carr exhibit, July 2007, The Louvre January 2008, Musee D’Orsay January 2008 and a bunch more in Europe Jan 2008 including the Vatican Museum)

  • 101 things update – long overdue….

    Date: 2007.11.02 | Category: 101 things | Response: 0

So apparently I have no updated my 101 things since June. Zan and Denise put me to shame with their monthly updates.  And mine is still not on the first of the month, but whatever.  So the updates since June….

    • Don’t buy a single book for a month x4 3 (didn’t buy a book in May/07 or September/07)
    • Go to Ottawa and have lunch with the people I work with (I’ve actually done that a time or two now…)
    • Clean closet x4 (3) (Some of these were seriously unexciting things weren’t they???)
    • Clean my desk x6 (2)
    • Update the blogroll on my book blog x3 (2)

I’m getting some of the boring stuff done. But less of the fun stuff. I need to work on that.

  • 101 things update

    Date: 2007.03.02 | Category: 101 things | Response: 0

Yeah, not doing so great at the 101 things.  I’ve been busy. When I started the 101 things I hadn’t planned on getting a new position. Does that mean that I’m not going to do the things? No. I just need to make more of an actual effort to get them done now that I’m low on free time (and really, I should be working right now but I’m tired and if I’m going to work all weekend I want Friday off dammit!).

This will be an update for two months because I forgot to update in Feb.

Under books I read all the books I had out from the library. yay! Of course now I have a pile a mile high but that’s a minor detail right???

In travel – I went to Montreal in January. Yay!

Under work I updated my resume. Yay! And although it wasn’t on the list I got a new position at work. Yay!

Health and fitness – I got my eyes checked. Yay!

I had to change something under blogs because I moved all my food blog posts into this blog. I just made a minor edit to change from posting on my food blog to posting about food on this blog. Minor detail.

  • 101 things in 1001 days

    Date: 2007.01.03 | Category: 101 things | Response: 10

Right, so I kinda made a New Year’s Resolution this year. It’s quite simple. It’s STOP FREAKING HIDING ALREADY. Don’t you love how I yell at myself. I had a lot of time to think over my vacation and I could not hide from the fact that well, I’ve been hiding. The last few years have been weird and yes, I’m content with my many, many things in my life. But I’m getting more than a little sick of being in my apartment all the time. And just thinking about doing things instead of, you know, actually DOING them. That was part of the reason why I joined the gym.

And since the whole 101 things in 1001 days list thingy scares the crap out of me I figure that maybe I should do it and find out WHY it scares me. Figured it’s as good a reason as any. How’d I hear about this list? As usual though Denise. She’s been working on hers for a year. You can go here to see the instructions.

I am starting this list January 3, 2007. I will finish Wednesday, September 30, 2009. I will finish 6 months after my 30th birthday. It’s very scary for me to think that far ahead. Seriously scary. I don’t do forward planning.

So without further ado, here’s my list.
