  • The #momspotting meme

    Date: 2010.02.03 | Category: meme | Response: 2

I don’t do the #momspotting thing due to the fact that I’m not a mom, which means I’d just be #spotting and well, that just sounds menstruation related. (And all the men just clicked away…)

But TW is a #momspotter and she has this meme and it’s foodie and well, you know me and foodie.

    1. Which expensive electronic device do you or your children most admire? Snarky answer – I have CHILDREN? OMG! WHERE WAS I? Non-snarky answer – iPhone. Wait, have one. MacBook Air.

    2. Do you ever use your computer in the kitchen? Yes. How else am I supposed to follow online recipes?

    3. What ratio of new recipes cooked in your home come from the Internet vs from a cookbook you own? Probably 85-90% internet.

    4. Does your family regard a recipe as something printed from the computer, on a handwritten card or something on the kitchen netbook? I think a recipe is something I’m supposed to write down/print out for them. Even if I don’t have one and just throw things together.

    5. Do you have a television or other electronic entertainment in the kitchen? We have a CD player/radio. Because sometimes you just want to rock out while you bake bread or do the dishes.

    6. What is the eating in front of the computer rule in your house? If we never ate in front of computers we’d never eat breakfast or lunch. We try not to during dinner though.

    7. How many places can you order dinner online from in your area? I have no idea. I know of two but we don’t really order food often and we’ve gotten delivery exactly once since we moved in here.

    8. What is the BEST recipe you have ever made from the Internet? Um…um…I have no idea. I’m pretty sure there are things I make all the time that started off as internet recipes but I don’t know what they are. The fake husband would probably say anything I pulled off Pioneer Woman Cooks.

    9. What’s the least used kitchen gadget in your home? garlic press. I’m not even sure why we have one. Close second, meat tenderizer.

    10. What is the oddest recipe your family has tried after seeing it on the Internet? I don’t do odd recipes. I’m boring.

  • The relationship meme

    Date: 2009.02.22 | Category: meme | Response: 4

I’m doing this because it will make Lee laugh his ass off when he reads it.

    What are your middle names?
It’s not that I have anything against our middles names but that’s more info than we want to put online. I will say neither of us dislike them and they are completely common. Mine more so for the era I was born in, Lee’s is just common.

How long have you been together?
More than a year. We don’t really have an anniversary and we like it that way. We’ll have been living together for a year soon.

How long did you know each other before you began dating?
Hmm we knew of each other longer than we actually knew it other. We worked for the same company but we each worked from home in different locations. I’d say we really knew each other for three or four months before we started dating? I guess?

    Who asked whom out?
He did. And he was a stubborn ass about it.

    How old are you?
    I’ll be 30 in May. He’s 33.

Whose siblings do you see the most?
His. Well, he only has one. I have many, but mine live about 1200km away and he hasn’t met them all yet. (He’s met hmm three of them.)

Which situation is hardest on you as a couple?
To date (at least) I think it was moving to Ottawa. Ottawa was home for him. While he “lived” with me in Montreal for a couple of months it wasn’t really a full move in, our stuff didn’t truly mingle until we moved to Ottawa. Everything here was just the same as it always was for him (well, not everything but you know what I mean) but it’s a whole new city in which I don’t have any family or many friends. When we moved here I didn’t work out of the house. He made a comment one day about how he was going out to do something “because it was what they always did” and it really bugged me. Because little had changed for him but everything was (and still is) foreign for me. It’s improving…but still sometimes difficult.

Did you go to the same school?
    Nope. Not even close.

Are you from the same home town?
    Nope, not even close.

    Who is smarter?
We’re smarter than each other in different ways I think.  That’s probably a good thing because if we were smart in the same ways we’re probably argue a lot more. (We’re both a wee bit opinionated…and stubborn…and competitive with each other.)

    Who is the most sensitive?
I think me. Although he’s far more sentimental and marshmallowy.

Where do you eat out most as a couple?
We really don’t eat out often. We both like to cook and eat very well at home. When we do it’s usually Chinese or Thai food. When we were in Montreal we snagged takeout from Boustan a lot. (Mmm Boustan). If we are going out for a “nice” (re: more expensive meal) we tend to favour French restaurants. Usually when we eat out it’s something that we don’t generally make at home.

Where is the furthest you have traveled together as a couple?
We travelled there individually since we were coming from opposite directions but we travelled around Europe together. We did Paris, Rome and Venice. Paris was our favourite (even if it did have the stairs from hell everywhere).

    Who has the craziest exes?
Neither of us has crazy exes. That’s not to say that we’re on amicable terms with all of our exes but that I don’t think that any of them are crazy. Sure I may refer to one of mine as the Evil Ex (or of late my Exhole) but he’s not crazy – he’s just an asshole who broke my cat.(You really don’t want to know.)

    Who has the worst temper?
Without a doubt, me. Seriously. I keep it under lock and key for the most part but it does occasionally burst out. It ain’t pretty.

    Who does the most cooking?
Me. I enjoy it particularly when I don’t have to do the dishes and he does the dishes (yes, all the dishes). He does breakfast most mornings because I’m useless until I’ve been up for at hour or two. He is a very good cook though, even if he has a hard time admitting it. If we do Indian or Thai food at home chances are he’s cooked it. He probably cooks dinner one night a week or so and he did most of the cooking in his last relationship.

    Who is the most stubborn?
We’re both really stubborn but he’s probably the most reasonable in his stubborness, which I guess means I’m the most stubborn. Luckily we tend to be stubborn about different things…

    Who hogs the bed most?
Neither of us tends to be bed hogs but I am occasionally if I fall asleep first. It can also depend on what side of the bed the cat is on because we really do try not to kick her or kick her off. I will fully own up to being a blanket hog though. I can’t help it. I’m always cold.

    Who does the laundry?
    Lee. I’m a total slacker.

    Who’s better with the computer?
I think Lee. I’m better with social media/online stuff but I think he’s overall better with computers. I can’t get him into turning our house into a Mac household though…yet.

Who drives when you are together?
Lee. After 10+ years of relying on public transit I have no desire to drive. I have a driver’s license and I keep it current but I don’t drive. I drove a bit when we were in PEI this summer. It was weird for both of us.

  • Three Random Things

    Date: 2008.05.05 | Category: meme | Response: 3

Vered tagged me for a meme. So here’s three random things – the moving edition.

    1. When this blog started way back when there was a lot of “should I move? should I not move?” debating going on. There was a moving category on the blog that I later removed because how often does a person move? This is my fourth move since starting the blog.
    2. This will be my tenth move in just under eleven years.
    3. This will be the third time in fourth years that I’m moving to a different city. I really ought to just stop already don’t you think?

Speaking of moving…I have started packing. A good chunk of the kitchen and all the hardcover books have been packed. It’s a start.

  • 8 things

    Date: 2007.12.11 | Category: meme | Response: 2

Kathy tagged me with an 8 things meme. I’m a wee bit slow at getting to it but I’ve been slower.

    1. I tend to have hallucinations when I have fevers.

    2. When I was a kid the hallucinations used to be the same. It was a cartoon cowboy in a ten-gallon hat along with a herd of animals that would rival the collection on Noah’s ark. No matter what I did they kept advancing. In my head I’d retreat and they’d be closer. I’d walk towards them and they would come closer. The worst was when my fever would go up and down because they’d disappear for while only to come back a few hours later. No, they never caught me.

    3. I don’t think I’ve ever told anyone about the cartoon cowboy and his stampede. Not even my mother. Even though he terrified me.

    4. When I got older the hallucinations changed. I started seeing snakes and tigers in my bed. My mother knew about those.

    5. I’m still scared of the cartoon cowboy even though I haven’t seen him in years.

    6. I’m secretly (ok, not so much now that I’ve told everyone) relieved to live in a building with doormen because I know if I really needed it they would help me get to a hospital if I was really sick. Or bring me orange juice from the dep in our building.

    7. Sometimes when I’m sick I get unreasonably freaked out about sick and alone even though if it was really bad I know I could call people.

    8.  My favourite thing to drink when I’m sick? Apple juice.

    No, I’m not sick.

  • Because I outta post or uhhh something

    Date: 2007.07.18 | Category: meme | Response: 4

I’ve owed TW 8 random things for awhile soooooooooo here are the rules.

Each participant posts eight random facts about themselves. Tagees should write a blogpost of eight random facts about themselves. At the end of the post, eight more bloggers are tagged. Go to their blog and leave a comment telling them they’re tagged.

    1. I own way more glassware than any sane single person ought to. In all honesty I must own at least 50 pieces and probably about a third of that is crystal (including tempered crystal coffee mugs).  For the love of Pete no one give me any more glasses. Or mug. No mugs! I really should get rid of some but I can’t decide what to get rid of so it all stays.
    2. I have a crystal dish set. Place, bowls, you name it. I kinda hate it. I’ve decided I don’t like clear plates and they are annoying.  But I refuse to replace because well, there’s nothing really *wrong* with it.
    3. I can’t curl my tongue.
    4. I also cannot roll my r’s. I thought perhaps this was connected somehow to also not being able to curl my tongue (somehow, don’t ask me how, it made sense at the time) until I met someone who could not curl their tongue but could roll their r’s.
    5. I’ve had my tongue pieced twice. The first time was only for about 3 days. It was not a good piercing job and had to be removed. The second time was two years later and I went to a much better place and it went really well. I had it for 3 or 4 years. I got annoyed one day and took out. Lately I’ve been missing it. But I’ve also gotten old grown up and decided that paying someone to drive a piece of metal through my tongue is perhaps not a smart idea.
    6. I’ve had my navel pierced once. I kept it for about 6 months but I had keloid issues and took it out. I miss it even though it never really stopped hurting. It was purty.  But again, since I have keloid issues I’ve decide that driving another piece of metal through there isn’t the greatest idea. (Getting old Being a grown up is not nearly as much fun as being young and stupid sometimes.)
    7. When I was a kid I hated tomatoes. I would eat tomato products (pasta sauce, ketchup, etc) but tomatoes themselves? Ew. No.  Now? I love them.
    8. Even though I eat tomatoes now I still hate them on sandwiches and burgers.  Except club sandwiches and BLTs. They need tomatoes.

And I’m being bad and not tagging anyone cause I have to be somewhere in 10 minutes and I tag people I’ll be late. Ha! If you want to it consider yourself tagged!

I guess since I’ve been tagged twice for this I should probably do it eh? Denise tagged me on the Fast Times blog and LJ tagged me at The Four Square.

The Rules: Each player lists 8 facts/habits about themselves. The rules of the game are posted at the beginning before those facts/habits are listed. At the end of the post, the player then tags 8 people and posts their names, then goes to their blogs and leaves them a comment, letting them know that they have been tagged and asking them to read your blog.1.

    1.  I don’t have a party trick.  You know how it is…you’re at a party or a dinner or something and people show off the quirky things they can do? Yeah well, I don’t do anything.  I have no quirky talents.  Go figure.
    2. My brain does not compute music.  Seriously.  I think got the short end of the stick on that one.  I can’t remember who sings songs or the names of songs in general (there are rare exceptions).  I can like an artist but not be able to name a single one of their songs.
    3. Oddly connected to the item above – a song can come on the radio and I can sing along with it.  Turn it off and I cannot repeat what I just sang or what comes next.
    4. I used to hate doing dishes and now I kinda almost like it.  I still let them sit for longer than they should before doing them but shhh don’t tell my mother that it doesn’t bother me. (Although I do have to use rubber gloves when washing, otherwise my hands break out in a rash – soon not to be a problem as my new apartment has a dishwasher).
    5. I love swings.  Swings are my favourite playground item.  It feels like flying.
    6. I very rarely listen to music when I’m working because the words distract me.  I can handle instrumental music but after awhile music just plain gets on my nerves when I’m trying to write.  BUT when I’m in the zone and feeling really productive I turn on loud heavy rock music.
    7. I prefer fruit to chocolate.  (I know, a lot of you know this already but there are some people who have missed out on that.)
    8. I’m a perfectionist who doesn’t believe in perfection.

I’m tagging Deby because I don’t think she’s blogged in months.  Ditto the Young One.  And because I don’t think she’s yet been officially introduced to the wonders that are memes.

  • High School Memories Meme

    Date: 2007.05.27 | Category: meme | Response: 3

Stolen from Lee who stole it from Dawn. Who wants to thieve it next?

    1. Who was your best friend?  I had several.  Calleen of course.  But also S.  Lived with S and that put an end to that a few years later.

    2. What sports did you play?  I have the coordination of a rock. None.

    3. What kind of car did you drive?  K car.  Can’t remember what year. Maybe an 88. It was a hunk of junk but usually got me from point A to point B…except that one time I ended up having to hitchhike. Did not like big hills.  Or anything above 90km/hr.

    4. It’s Friday night, where were you?  Either working at either Wendy’s with the gang or at the movies with everyone else. Or driving around looking for something to do.

    5. Were you a party animal?  Went to a lot of parties but didn’t really “party” at them if you catch my drift. I was usually the DD.  For the most part I saved my partying for later years.

    6. Were you considered a flirt?  I don’t think so.  Not then.  Too shy and insecure I think. Still shy although no one believes it, hmph!  Although maybe Melis can say otherwise since she actually went to high school with me.
    7. Were you in band, orchestra, or choir?  Ha. No! I have even less musical ability than I do coordination.

    8. Were you a nerd? More nerdish than actual nerd.  I think I was just generally regarded as a loser.

    9. Did you get suspended/expelled? hahahaha no.  They literally gave me master keys to the school on more than one occasion.

    10. Can you sing the fight song?  We didn’t have one. Hell we didn’t even have a cheer.

    11. Who was your favorite teacher?  Mr Crane – 11th and 12th grade bio (which I took in 10th and 11th grade respectively).  Mr Crane rocked. (Melis will second me on this one.)
    12. What was your school’s full name? Yeah, not putting it here.  Initials MRHS.

    13. School mascot? Vikings.

    14. Did you go to Prom?  Yep.  Certainly was not the time of my life. My date kinda sucked. Not as much as my best friend’s date sucked. He made her cry. I threatened to send him back to his home (he was “from away”) in a body bag.

    15. If you could go back and do it over, would you?  Hell no.

    16. What do you remember most about graduation?  Feeling happy. Like my possibilities were endless. Like I was going to accomplish something.  That I had done a good job, that I had done things right.

    17. Where were you on senior skip day?  In class. Skipping on that day would have resulted in suspension.  Besides, whenever I wanted to skip I just called my mom or sister and they signed me out of class (Mom, I’m bored and I have no tests, can I leave?)

    18. Did you have a job your senior year?  Yep, Wendy’s.  Surprisingly good times.  And I still eat there so I think that says a lot.

    19. Where did you go most often for lunch? Most days a local bakery my sister worked at.  It was cheaper and healthier than the caf.

    20. Have you gained weight since then? Nope, lost.

    21. What did you do after graduation? Calleen, S and I ditched our boyfriends (well, C had since dumped her loser prom date, YAY!) and our families, drove to “town” and went out for Chinese food. I had been to the grad party for that last two years anyway, so I knew I wasn’t missing much.  I wanted to spend grad night with my friends. Even though S and I aren’t friends anymore it was still the right decision. (Y’all thought I partied that night didn’t you?)

    22. When did you graduate? 1997

    23. Who was your Senior prom date? My then boyfriend, H. We did the long distance thing for awhile during first year.  But he was an ass and cheated on me.

    24. Are you going to your 10 year reunion? Hell no.

    25. Who was your home room teacher?  We were semestered so we had two.  Need to think…I think it was Mr. Lelecher first term and Mr. umm what the hell was his name? Mr MacSomething. McQuaid maybe… (Melis, what the hell was his name? I think you had Econ for homeroom too. I’ve already packed my yearbooks.)

Two-Legged Animal posted this about a month ago.  I marked it because I knew I wanted to do it some day.  I don’t think I have enough variety in my list at the moment (I have a LOT of Ella right now…) to make it truly interesting but what the heck.
